David H. Keller, M.D., is probably best known today for his science fiction and horror stories from the pulps, but he wrote fantasy tales as well. Some fans regard his fantasy output as his best work, particularly the “Tales from Cornwall” series. “The Last Magician” is not part of that series or any other, despite the titular character’s castle sharing a name with one in the Cornwall tales. Originally published in Weird Tales in 1932, “The Last Magician” has rarely been reprinted since then, making it worthy for inclusion in Renegade Swords IV.
