Two New Titles Coming This Fall From DMR Books

This fall fans of heroic fantasy will be treated to two new outstanding novels: Germanicus, Lord of Eagles by Adrian Cole and Vran the Chaos-Warped by D.M. Ritzlin.

Germanicus, Lord of Eagles is the long-awaited follow-up to Arminius, Bane of Eagles, the first volume of War on Rome, Adrian Cole’s epic alternative world history. In Germanicus, the action centers on Rome in 19 AD, where political intrigue clashes with supernatural power. Germanicus, the people’s hero, has returned from success in wars abroad. Tiberius, his adopted father, grows jealous of Germanicus’ popularity and fears he may attempt to usurp the Emperor’s throne prematurely. Thus begins a complex web of intrigue and treachery as Rome’s most ambitious military leaders, priests and statesmen begin their devious machinations, with one goal: to secure the Emperor’s throne for themselves.

Germanicus, Lord of Eagles will be released in early September in trade paperback, hardcover, and digital formats. The first volume of the War on Rome series was described as “…bloody and brutal... incredibly exciting and fast paced” by Cirsova Magazine. Phantasmagoria Magazine claimed it was “...destined to become a classic...” and Black Gate declared “Cole should be considered one of the best Sword & Sorcery writers around.”

October will see the release of Vran the Chaos-Warped, the debut novel from DMR Books’ own D.M. Ritzlin. Vran the Chaos-Warped is a man who will never break an oath or drop a grudge. When he discovers the despicable wizard Foad Misjak has committed the most foul of crimes against the population of Nilztiria, he swears to slay the evildoer or die trying. Vran confronts Misjak, who learns how the cursed swordsman earned the name “Chaos-Warped” when he casts a spell which has drastically different effects than intended. As a result of the uncontrollable magic, the pair of nemeses are swept away from Nilztiria to another dimension!

Vran the Chaos-Warped was originally serialized in Cirsova Magazine in 2022. In addition to the novel, this new volume from DMR Books will include two more tales of Vran’s adventures, both of which are previously unpublished.

Vran’s first appearance was in the short story “Under the Horns of Iljer,” one of thirteen tales included in the collection Necromancy in Nilztiria. Age of Dusk praised Necromancy in Nilztiria as “a great collection of new S&S that will delight any fans of the genre. It manages to stay true to the genre’s roots while doing some innovation of its own, avoiding slavish imitation,” while Spiral Tower declared Necromancy to be “a rich, fun, sometimes challenging, ambitious, memorable read, rich with unresolved tension: artful and puerile, serious and playful, conventional and transgressive.”
